What IS 14509 covers
IS 14509 is the Indian Standard for playground equipment safety. It governs structural integrity, fall-height limits, impact-absorbing surfacing, entrapment gaps and material safety.
The five things to check before you buy
- Fall height & surfacing — taller equipment needs deeper impact-absorbing surfacing.
- No entrapment gaps — openings must be either small enough or large enough to prevent head/limb entrapment.
- Rounded edges & capped bolts — no sharp protrusions.
- Material durability — UV-stable FRP and galvanised steel resist Indian weather.
